Frequently Asked Questions

New homes should be insured for their full rebuild value – including labour, materials, site clearance, and permanent outbuildings. This amount may differ from the construction or purchase cost.

Home insurance is usually required once construction is complete and the property is ready to be occupied. During the build phase, cover is generally provided under a separate site or self-build policy.

Contents insurance can be added once the home is furnished. It covers household possessions such as furniture, appliances and personal belongings, subject to policy terms.

Buildings and contents cover generally extends to garages and outbuildings on the property, including their structures and certain contents, depending on the policy.

Some insurers offer 1, 2 or 3-year home insurance policies, subject to underwriting criteria and policy conditions. If you would like more information, please ask our team of advisors.

Home insurance does not cover construction defects. These may be addressed under separate structural warranties or guarantees provided by the relevant builder and/or tradespeople.
