The May bank holiday weekend is almost here! I hope you have plans to get out and about this weekend. We have BIG plans this weekend; birthday parties, a roadtrip to Donegal and a day at home with the family. You just need to make sure that you don’t leave your home unprotected over the weekend. I’ve been looking after house insurance claims for the past 5 years and I have seen what burglars look out before they burgle a house.
One of my biggest tips is the keep your lawn mowed, especially in the summer month. It deters home burglaries because it looks like the house is regularly occupied. There are also lots of other handy tips to follow to increase the safety of our home.
Handy Tips
Neighbour
Tell a neighbour where you are going. If you are going to be gone all day, ask a neighbour to keep an eye on your property.
Don’t post any photos on Facebook of your trips away until you return home from your weekend away.
Lock
Lock all your doors and shut the windows, don’t allow easy access to your home.
Valuables
Try not to leave anything valuable on the counters or by the windows, they will catch a burglars eye. If they don’t see anything worth taking through the window they may not enter your home.
Alarm
If you have an alarm, use it!
Suspicious
If you notice anything or anyone suspicious in the area, make a note of it. It may not be significant at the time when you see it but if a burglary happens in your home or your neighbour’s home, the smallest of details can make a difference.
Home insurance
Protect what matters most. Your home is more than bricks and mortar, make sure it is protected correctly. If you need a house insurance quote you can get one house insurance quote here .
