Sit down, relax and soak up the Christmas atmosphere

Christmas is my favourite time of the year! I love the excitement of Santa’s arrival, meeting up with friends at parties and spending some time at home with my family. It’s the only time of the year that we buy the RTE guide to see what movies will be on the tele over the Christmas period;  it sounds very old fashioned I know but it’s all part of the festivities. We have put together some of our all time favourite Christmas movies. We will definitely be watching some of these over the next few weeks!

Home Alone

Ah come on, I had to put this at the top of the list! It’s a classic! This 90’s American comedy Christmas movie is an absolute gem and I will definitely watch Home Alone and Home Alone 2 over Christmas. I love looking at the clothes, the wallpaper and the pizza! I think it’s 27 years old this year..

The Holiday

Who doesn’t love a bit of comedy romance over Christmas. This is quite a modern Christmas movie; although it’s 11 years old! Jude Law, Jack Black, Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz star in this light hearted Christmas comedy and it’s a really easy watch. I bought it on DVD when it was released over 10 years ago.

Miracle on 34th Street

I don’t watch this often enough but I do love it. A 1994 remake that captures our hearts at Christmas as a little girl and her cynical mother find something to believe in when a department store Santa Claus claims to be the real thing. Then they go to court to prove it, it’s a great watch.

The Santa Claus

Why are all the best Christmas movies made in the early 90’s?! The Santa Claus is about a man called Scott Calvin and his son Charlie. They disturb Santa while he is on the roof of their house and they happen to accidentally kill Santa Claus. Long story short, they fly to the North Pole and Scott becomes Santa Claus. Not exactly his dream job but it quickly becomes one of the best experiences of his life. I watch this every year.

Love Actually

A romantic comedy that portrays 9 intertwined stories connected by love. It’s very funny and in most cases the hopeless romantic in you just wants the right people to get together. This movie with a takeaway and a bottle of wine will be ideal!

The Polar Express

This is Lee’s favourite movie to watch with his nieces and nephews at Christmas. Without fail, it’s on TV every Christmas Eve and it’s full of action. It’s for all ages and it keeps you entertained from beginning to end.
