So, listening to Game On on 2fm at home last night, the main topic of conversation turned to that of our upcoming qualification play-off for The 2018 FIFA World cup. Little did many of us think that we would still be in with a chance, using every bit of our Irish luck, in the hope of a summer of fun in 2018. Who will ever forget the nail biting, the shouting at the TV in our last group game against Wales, and that sensational 57th minute goal from the boy wonder James McClean. The roof at home certainly shock with the cheers and fist pumps that ensued were a sight to behold! There were some fantastic performances on the night, including a man-of-the-match display from David Meyler (his father John being a proud Wexford man!). I can think of one particular Scots man in our Wexford office who certainly won’t be allowed to forget it for long time to come (The slagging is still in full swing!).
Our attention now turns to Saturday evening. Kick-off is it at 19:45, so for all those X-Factor fans amongst you make sure and record it, because you haven’t a hope of getting the remote control off those footie-mad fans!!! The game will be shown live on RTE 2 and Sky Sports football. Get the drinks and nibbles in, take the phone off the hook and lets cross our fingers in the hope of reliving the craic that we had around Euro 2016. If you’re going to be in the car get yourself tuned into RTE Radio 1, just make sure the soccer-mad fan isn’t behind the steering wheel! One thing is for certain, if Ireland qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, there won’t be a cow milked or a child washed for those two weeks next summer.
To get ourselves in soccer mode we took ourselves around the office and asked few of our soccer fans for their thoughts on the upcoming game (no names will be mentioned but we will be sure to compare the answers next Monday morning!)
